Anxiety Brisbane – Do you or someone you know have problems controlling anxiety?
What is anxiety?
“Anxiety is the paralysis caused by over-analyses.” Most anxiety problems today are caused by over thinking situations in life.
Symptoms of anxiety can include:
- Burnout at work
- Panic attacks
- Sweaty Palms
The good news is that there are solutions to this problem. Common approaches that Psychologists use to deal with mental health problems include:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Solution Focused Therapy
What can you expect in sessions with a Psychologist?
- Relaxation Exercises
- Mindfulness Techniques
- Challenging Thoughts Exercises
- Talk Therapy
- Helpful Self-Help Books To Read
How many sessions will it take?
On average clients wanting help with mental health problems will come to therapy for between 6-12 sessions.
Different approaches to dealing with anxiety
- Psychotherapy (e.g. consulting a psychologist)
- Pharmaceutical support (e.g. anti-depressants)
- Combination of both
In the first instance your GP may recommend that you take anti-depressants and/ or see a Psychologist for counselling to address the symptoms.
The skills that you learn through consulting a Psychologist will be skills that you can apply for the rest of your life.
How much does it cost?
There are different rebates available including:
- Private Health
- Brisbane Mind
- Department of Veterans Affairs
The cost of sessions is $135. If you have a valid Medicare referral (through your GP) this will equate to $50 (approx) in out of pocket expenses for you. In other words you will receive $83.40 back as a Medicare rebate. You can claim the rebate at the Psychologist’s consulting rooms after your consultation.
If you have Extras cover through your Private Health Fund you will be entitled to approximately 50% (e.g. $65) of the cost of the session back. Please check with your provider to make sure that you are covered.
